Cloth Diapering 2.0
As for the sprayer, I worry that installing/making our own won’t provide a strong enough spray. Am I wrong about this? Anyone have first-hand experience with that?
If you’re handy, you might make your own. I don’t think this is something we’d be brave enough to try.
I’ve heard tons of different things regarding the detergent. Some say it doesn’t matter what you use, some say you can make your own, and some say you have to use specialty brands. I’m thinking if I have the time, I’d like to make my own but if not, what’s the real deal? I watched one YouTube video and they swore by Method’s detergent (not sure what kind it was).
Seriously. Check out the Diaper Jungle detergent chart. It’s awesome.
And on the pail liners: can you just buy a wet liner and put it in a covered trashcan or do you need the “special” trashcan for the wet liner?
We just use a regular trash can with a lid.
And cloth wipes: are they worth investing in? Do you need a cloth wipes warmer? What else do you need with cloth wipes? A special spray before wiping baby down?
A friend of mine was really freaked out by cloth wipes. Then she started cloth diapering and realized if you’re already doing cloth, going all the way just makes sense. Cloth wipes can be super inexpensive (a lot of people make their own from flannel scraps; you can also use baby wash cloths), or you can buy pricier ones.
The only thing you really need is wipes and a spray bottle of water. However, there are a lot of home brew things you can use to spray or soak your wipes in before use. A lot of people recommend adding olive oil or a little bit of baby soap. You can run a google search on “cloth wipes solutions” and come up with about a million recommendations. You can also buy a more expensive wipes solution, but it seems like a waste of money to me. Plain water works fine.
If you soak your wipes before use, you’ll want a place to store them to keep them moist, and a regular wipes warmer will work for that. We use the Munchkin wipes warmer, and my cloth wipes fit just fine in it. It’s not necessary, though.
